IELE Language Cafe: Exploring your language potential

On September 5th and 6th, 2023, in collaboration with Theodore Maria School of Arts, the Institute of English Language Education (IELE) organized IELE Language Café: Exploring Your Language Potential. The aims of this event were to promote language diversity and potential among AU community members as well as strengthening the relationships among our students, faculty members, staff and high schoolers.

The event took place at the CL Plaza with various booths from the IELE, Business English, Business French, Business Chinese, Business Japanese, General Education, English-Chinese for Digital Communication, the English Language Program (Graduate School of Human Sciences), and Confucius Institute of Assumption University (CIAU).

The opening ceremony of the event was officiated by Rev. Brother Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, President, Rector Magnificus. Next, Dr. Nida Boonma, Director of IELE also briefly introduced IELE language Café and gave some encouraging messages to all AU students to continuously utilize their full language potential in different settings. Rev. Brother Dr. Veerayuth Boonpram, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sureepong Phothongsunan, Dean, Theodore Maria School of Arts were all in attendance as special guests during the opening ceremony along with students from Assumption College Sriracha.

The opening ceremony was followed by a special music performance from Communicative English II students: Ms. Jitichayapa Muangklang and Ms. Titapa Suwech. Subsequently, hip hop was performed by Mr. Pang Hanchen “Big Black”, a Ph.D. student from the English Language Teaching (ELT) Program, Graduate School of Human Sciences with the theme of LOVE. Our MA student, Mr. Hui Xuhui “Jesse”, also gave astonishing Chinese opera performance on stage. The first day of the event ended with a Kahoot! which tremendously attracted a large number of students to the games.

Day 2 witnessed the continuation of the event with the booths being set up promptly at 8:30 am. There were sizeable numbers of AU students and students from Bang Bo Wittayakom School eagerly lining up to purchase the snacks and take part in the games. The main program of the day was the prize giving awards for the Poster Contest: Teach Us Your Language which were graciously handed out to the contestants by Dr. Nida Boonma, Director of IELE. Finally, the stage program concluded with Kahoot! with many students having participated enthusiastically, all having had a marvelous time answering questions pertaining to languages around the world. Underscoring the overwhelmingly positive reception to this event, students continued to join the entertaining games at the booths until 4:00 pm which centered around the theme “Exploring Your Language Potential.”
